The decay of seeds is irreversible and at best can only be delayed by applying techniques that reduce the velocity of the metabolic reactions involved. There is little information on the biochemistry of tropical forest tree seeds related to their storability. It was investigated the influence of the composition of lipids and soluble sugars of two storage compartments, the cotyledons and the embryonic axis, of Melanoxylon brauna Schot. The rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora Ducke) is a native tree species of Amazon rainforest growing naturally in acidic forest soils with reduced redox potential. However, this species can also been found growing in forest gaps containing oxide soils. Variations in the forms of mineral nitrogen (NO3- or NH4+) may be predicted in these different edaphic conditions. Diferentes classes de proteínas são comuns em sementes de leguminosas, incluindo inibidores de tripsina e proteínas hemaglutinantes, as quais atuam sobre enzimas proteolíticas e sobre carboidratos da superfície celular, respectivamente. O objetivo deste trabalho foi quantificar, detectar e caracterizar parcialmente a ocorrência dessas proteínas em sementes de Tachigali plumbea, Sesbania exasperata e Ormosia costulata var. trifoliolata. Não há conhecimento específico para sementes florestais quanto aos processos metabólicos envolvidos durante o armazenamento, o que dificulta o estabelecimento de técnicas para sua conservação adequada. Assim, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi estudar a participação de enzimas do estresse oxidativo e metabolismo de lipídios durante o armazenamento ou envelhecimento acelerado. O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar o desempenho fotossintético de plantas jovens de andiroba (Carapa guianensis), submetidas à deficiência hídrica e à reidratação. As plantas foram irrigadas diariamente, em casa de vegetação, durante 15 dias. Após aclimatação, as plantas foram separadas em dois tratamentos: plantas irrigadas e não irrigadas. Quando a resposta fotossintética das plantas não irrigadas alcançou valores próximos a zero, as plantas foram reidratadas. Aniba rosaeodora is an Amazonian tree species that belongs to the family Lauraceae. Due to intense exploitation for extraction of essential oils (mainly linalol), A. rosaeodora is now considered an endangered species. On the other hand, there is little information about its ecophysiology which would be useful to support future forest planting programs. The physiological performance of acariquara (Minquartia guianensis) seedlings submitted to water deficit and the recovery of physiological parameters during rehydration were investigated in a greenhouse experiment. The analyzed parameters were: leaf water potential, gas exchange and chlorophyll a fluorescence. After thirty-five days, non-irrigated plants exhibited a leaf water potential 70 % lower compared to control plants (irrigated daily) and the stomatal conductance reached values close to zero, inducing a severe decrease in gas exchange (photosynthesis and transpiration). The objective of this work was to analyze gas exchange, photosynthetic characteristics, photochemical efficiency of photosystem II and anatomical characteristics of young plant leaves of two guarana (Paullinia cupana) clones (BRS-CG372RC and BRS-CG611RL) growing under open field. The variables of gas exchange and fluorescence of chlorophyll a were evaluated in mature leaves. The values of photosynthesis and transpiration found for BRS-CG372RC were 27% greater and 80% lesser than values found for BRS-CG611RL, respectively. Os inibidores de proteinases são proteínas extensivamente investigadas nos tecidos de estocagem, mas pouco prospectadas em outros tecidos vegetais. O objetivo deste estudo foi detectar a presença de inibidores de serinoproteinases em extratos foliares de quinze espécies de leguminosas arbóreas da Amazônia. We examine the hypothesis that the chlorophyll a fluorescence technique can be an efficient tool to support the selection of species adapted to high irradiance and therefore, suitable for use in initial rehabilitation projects of degraded areas. The experiment was conducted at the Pedro de Moura Operational Base, Amazonas, Brazil.
